Selling 101: Utility Billing

Sometime just before closing, you should contact your utility companies for your home. You should let them know that you are selling your house and that you are closing soon. They will order final readings and change the billing over to the new owners. Here are a few to remember to contact.

Garbage

Cable (optional)
Internet Provider (optional)

Some cities require you to use the city’s garbage collection. Other cities require you to hire a waste hauler. Check with your particular city to see what applies in your area.

Garbage

Minneapolis Utility Billing provides garbage services. You can read about their collection services here.
St. Paul does not provide garbage services. Please contact one of their approved vendors.
Richfield does not provide garbage services. Please contact one of their approved vendors.
Bloomington has just moved to a consortium of garbage haulers. You will contract with the city to have them haul your garbage and they will allow one of the consortium members to haul your garbage.
